IC-PBL

Education for Learners to Develop Industry-based Practical Problem-Solving Ability

Industry-Coupled Problem-Based Learning (IC-PBL) is a new learner-centered pedagogical model at Hanyang University.
As an educational model focused on developing practical and real-world problem-solving abilities,
it links the organizational relationship of classes in the university and real society,
and also facilitates the generation of outcomes through creative problem-solving activities.

Course type of IC-PBL : MECA

The course type of IC-PBL is determined by two main factors:
1) whether the topic of problem or project is provided by a fields or an instructor, and
2) whether the outcomes is evaluated by a field or an instructor.

  • M (Merge Type)
    - Student solves a real-world problem or project offered or requested by the fields
    - the field expert or external specialist evaluates and gives feedbacks on the outcomes
  • A (Anchor Type)
    - Student studies and solves real problems (or projects) occurring in the field.
    - the instructor evaluates and gives feedback on the outcomes
  • E (Evaluate Type)
    - Student solves problems (or projects) designed and offered by the instructor
    - the field expert or external specialist evaluates and gives feedbacks on the outcomes
  • C (Create Type)
    - Student solves problems (or projects) designed and offered by the instructor
    - the instructor evaluates and gives feedbacks on the outcomes

Support for IC-PBL Development

01. Workshop

We offer a workshop to professors who are interested in starting or developing IC-PBL before every semester.

02. 1:1 Consultant

We support professors who want to explore the best solutions on the issues related to design or development of their IC-PBL courses through 1:1 consultations

Sharing the best IC-PBL practice

01. Final Report Submission

1) Professor who operated IC-PBL course submits a final report at the end of every semester.
2) The final report of IC-PBL course is submitted at the end of the semester.

02. Best IC-PBL Practice Sharing Conference

Best IC-PBL Practice cases operated during the semester are shared in a conference at the end of the semester.

03. Innovative IC-PBL Lecture Award

Professors with outstanding outcomes among the IC-PBL courses are awarded at the conference at the end of the semester.
